Dutch Minister says that the US cannot dictate its approach to Chinese exports
Dutch officials warned that the US shouldn't assume the Netherlands will unquestionably adopt its approach to China export restrictions. It is the first time Dutch officials have stated their position publicly on the issue. The Biden administration is pressing for a multilateral agreement to impose limits on China to prevent the country and its military from obtaining cutting-edge chip technologies. The sale of ASML, a Dutch semiconductor manufacturer, to Chinese consumers is already restricted. Nonetheless, the Dutch corporation may still provide them with less advanced products.
In October, the Biden administration announced steps to limit China's access to advanced artificial intelligence chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. According to US chipmakers, the new laws might cost them billions of dollars in sales. US officials will visit the Netherlands to discuss export controls this month.
